Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. You’ll need crown molding, a miter saw, a measuring tape, a level, a coping saw, finishing nails, a nail gun, wood filler, sandpaper, caulk, and paint. Step 2: Measure and Cut the Molding
Measure the length of the walls where you will install the molding. Use a miter saw to cut the molding at a 45-degree angle for inside and outside corners. Always measure twice and cut once to ensure accuracy.
Step 3: Prepare the Molding
If your walls are not perfectly square, you may need to cope the joints. Use a coping saw to cut along the profile of the molding to ensure a tight fit at the corners. Sand the edges for a smooth finish.
Step 4: Install the Molding
Start installing the molding at one corner of the room. Use a level to ensure it is straight, and secure it to the wall with finishing nails or a nail gun. Continue installing each piece, making sure the joints fit snugly together.
Step 5: Fill Gaps and Nail Holes
Once the molding is installed, fill any gaps or nail holes with wood filler. Let the filler dry, then sand it smooth. This will ensure a seamless finish.
Step 6: Caulk the Edges
Apply caulk along the edges of the molding where it meets the wall and ceiling. This will fill any small gaps and give the molding a polished look. The DAP Alex Plus Acrylic Latex Caulk is a great option for a smooth, paintable finish.

Step 7: Paint the Molding

Step 8: Touch Up and Clean Up
Once the paint is dry, inspect the molding for any imperfections and touch up as needed. Clean up your workspace and enjoy your beautifully installed crown molding and trim!
